S’pore drivers can collect VEP tag from Woodlands info centre from Sep. 18, 2024

Motorists in Singapore will be able to collect their vehicle entry permit (VEP) tag from the VEP information counter in Woodlands starting from 18 September 2024. The counter is located on the third floor of 186 Woodlands Industrial Park E5. This new option follows the ability to select Woodlands as a collection location from 3 September 2024, as reported by CNA. The VEP tag is mandatory for all foreign-registered vehicles entering Malaysia from Singapore from October 2024. Previously, motorists could either get the tag fixed in Johor or have it mailed to Singapore.

## Background

The introduction of the Woodlands collection point comes in response to calls from Singaporean drivers for a more convenient option to obtain their VEP tags. The VEP tag, which costs S$39, is essential for foreign vehicles entering Malaysia to ensure compliance with Malaysian road regulations. The new rule, effective from 1 October 2024, mandates that all foreign cars must have a VEP tag to enter Malaysia. TCSens, the vendor appointed by Malaysia’s Road Transport Department (JPJ), confirmed the availability of this new collection option.

## Installed on windscreen

Drivers opting to collect their VEP tags from Woodlands will receive an RFID tag designed for installation on the windscreen. However, if the windscreen is deemed unsuitable, the tag will be installed on the headlamp. This differs from the tags delivered to Singapore, which are designed for headlamp installation. TCSens has been tasked with providing information and support to Singapore motorists regarding the VEP tags.

## Penalties for non-compliance

Motorists entering Malaysia without a VEP tag from 1 October 2024 risk facing severe penalties. These include fines of up to RM2,000 (S$600) or a jail term of up to six months. The strict enforcement underscores the importance of adhering to the new regulations to avoid legal repercussions.

## Additional information

The establishment of the VEP information counter in Woodlands is part of a broader effort to streamline the process for Singaporean drivers. The move follows feedback from motorists who found the previous options—self-collection in Johor Bahru or receiving the tag by post—less convenient. The new collection point aims to reduce the logistical burden and ensure that all drivers can comply with the upcoming regulations in a timely manner. Future developments may include additional collection points or further enhancements to the VEP tag distribution process.
