Background

Scoot, a subsidiary of Singapore Airlines, announced on 6 August 2024 that it would be launching flights to two new Southeast Asian destinations: Melaka and Kertajati in Indonesia. The flights to Kertajati will begin on 28 September 2024. The airline’s CEO expressed confidence in the demand for air travel, highlighting the strategic expansion into these new routes. All-in economy class fares start from S$92 to Kertajati and S$69 to Melaka, inclusive of taxes.

The announcement

Scoot’s announcement in August 2024 marked a significant expansion of its network. Besides Melaka, the airline will also operate flights to Kertajati, Indonesia, starting from 28 September 2024. The new routes are part of Scoot’s strategy to tap into the growing demand for regional air travel. “We are confident in the demand for air travel,” said Scoot’s CEO in a statement. The all-in economy class fares are competitively priced, starting at S$92 for Kertajati and S$69 for Melaka, inclusive of taxes.

Another new destination

In July 2024, Scoot also announced new daily flights to Subang, Malaysia. Subang airport is conveniently located just 28km from Kuala Lumpur city centre, offering travellers an alternative to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), which is about 55km from the city centre. This new route aims to provide more options for travellers heading to Malaysia’s capital.

Additional information

The introduction of these new routes is part of Scoot’s broader strategy to expand its footprint in Southeast Asia. The airline’s fleet, which includes the Airbus A320 family, Boeing 787 Dreamliner, and Embraer E190-E2 aircraft, will service these routes. The sale of tickets for the new destinations began on 6 August 2024 via Scoot’s website and mobile app. This expansion not only offers more travel options but also underscores Scoot’s commitment to meeting the growing demand for regional air travel.
