Homegrown restaurant chain Putien has closed its outlet at Parkway Parade on 15 September. The outlet, which had been in operation for 15 years, first opened its doors on 12 November 2009.
Background
Putien, known for its Fujian cuisine, has been a staple at Parkway Parade since its inception. The founder, Fong Chi Chung, was present at the soft launch of the outlet in 2009. Over the years, the restaurant has built a loyal customer base, becoming a go-to spot for many in the community.
‘Many fond memories’ at outlet
A visitor to the shopping mall noticed the closure and uploaded a photo to Xiaohongshu on the night of 16 September. In her post, she reminisced about the “many fond memories” she had at the outlet, mentioning that she had been buying Poon Choi for Chinese New Year from there for many years. “Whenever we had visitors, and we didn’t know what to eat, we would always swing by the outlet, and the quality of its dishes had always been very stable,” she shared. She also noted that food deliveries from the outlet helped her get through anxious days during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Statement from Putien
In response to queries, a Putien spokesperson confirmed that the Parkway Parade outlet had ceased operations “following the expiration of its lease” at the shopping centre. “The management is always on the lookout for alternative new locations to serve our customers,” added the spokesperson.
Future plans
While the closure of the Parkway Parade outlet marks the end of an era for many loyal customers, Putien’s management is actively seeking new locations to continue serving its patrons. This move aligns with the restaurant’s ongoing efforts to expand and adapt to changing market conditions.
The closure of the Parkway Parade outlet is a significant moment for both the restaurant and its customers, reflecting the dynamic nature of the food and beverage industry.
