Lorry driver, 59, sent to hospital after accident with bus in Bukit Panjang

A lorry and a bus collided at the junction of Bukit Panjang Road and Jelebu Road at 5:35 am on 26 September. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) and Singapore Police Force (SPF) reported that a 59-year-old male lorry driver was taken to the hospital conscious.

Background

The accident resulted in significant damage to both vehicles. Photos from a Fathership reader show the left side of the bus with a shattered windshield and broken rear door glass. Firefighters and auxiliary police officers were seen around the badly damaged white lorry, with a man in a white shirt trapped in the driver’s seat.

SCDF confirmed that the trapped individual was rescued using hydraulic rescue equipment and was then conveyed conscious to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital. The 59-year-old lorry driver is currently assisting with investigations. Police investigations are ongoing.

Previous incidents in Bukit Panjang

This is not the first accident in the Bukit Panjang area. On 15 July, a 26-year-old man was hospitalised after his car collided with a lorry on the Bukit Timah Expressway. Additionally, on 16 March, a 68-year-old woman was taken unconscious to the hospital following an accident involving a car and two personal mobility aids. The 32-year-old male car driver was arrested for careless driving causing grievous hurt.
