Drug raids: 2 men, 1 woman, all S’poreans aged 19, arrested in Sengkang & Serangoon North

Three 19-year-old Singaporeans were arrested in Sengkang and Serangoon North during a Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) operation on 18 September. The operation led to the seizure of a significant amount of cannabis and ‘Ice’ worth an estimated S$78,000, which could potentially supply 390 abusers for a week.

## Background

The CNB’s operation began in the early evening when officers apprehended a 19-year-old man and woman at a residential unit near Rivervale Walk. The search of the man’s bedroom revealed various drug paraphernalia, including a digital weighing scale. The suspects were then taken to another unit rented by the man in a private estate near Hougang Avenue 7, where officers discovered approximately 486g of ‘Ice’ and 695g of cannabis.

## Arrests and seizures

In a subsequent raid at a residential unit near Serangoon North Avenue 3, CNB officers arrested another 19-year-old man in his bedroom. The search yielded about 24g of ‘Ice’, various drug paraphernalia, and S$11,400 in cash.

## Legal implications

Investigations into the drug activities of the arrested suspects are ongoing. Under Singaporean law, individuals found guilty of trafficking more than 250g of methamphetamine or more than 500g of cannabis may face the mandatory death penalty.

## Broader context

This operation is part of a broader crackdown on drug trafficking in Singapore. Recent months have seen several high-profile arrests, including a case involving two Singaporeans allegedly trafficking 58kg of Ecstasy in Johor and another involving six Singaporeans, including brothers aged 17 and 19, in an island-wide raid that seized drugs worth S$497,000. The CNB continues to intensify its efforts to combat drug-related activities in the country.
