Nikocado Avocado, the YouTuber known for his mukbang videos, has lost 113kg over a two-year period from 2022 to 2024. This dramatic weight loss serves as a rebuke to his critics who often mocked his weight. Perry, whose real name is Nicholas Perry, revealed his transformation to his millions of subscribers on Friday, 6 September, appearing drastically slimmer.
Background
Perry had embarked on a secret weight loss journey, cleverly hiding it by uploading old videos of himself to maintain the illusion that he was still overweight. This strategy allowed him to focus on his health without public scrutiny. Before his mukbang fame, Perry was a lifestyle vegan YouTuber but switched to mukbangs in 2016.
New look
On 6 September, Perry unveiled his new look, shocking his audience with his significantly slimmer appearance. This reveal was part of a video titled “Two Steps Ahead,” which has garnered over 34 million views. In the video, Perry addressed his critics, stating, “Today, I woke up from a very long dream, and I also woke up having lost 250 pounds off of my body.”
Addressed critics
Perry, now 32, used the video to confront his detractors, saying, “People are the most messed-up creatures on the entire planet, and yet I’ve still managed to stay two steps ahead of everyone. The joke’s on you.” Commenters praised his transformation, with one noting, “This video will be officially History of YouTube.”
From 186.4kg to 71.6kg
According to NBC News, Perry’s weight loss journey took about two years, reducing his weight from 186.4kg to 71.6kg. He revealed that he had been strategically posting pre-recorded videos on YouTube and TikTok to maintain the illusion of his previous weight. Perry even shaved his head to avoid being recognised in public and had the support of a few fellow YouTubers to keep his secret.
What unveiling video showed
The unveiling video featured Perry wearing a giant panda mask, symbolising the complexities of social media. He described his transformation as the “greatest social experiment of my entire life” and emphasised that he was in control the whole time, even when people mocked him for over-consumption. Perry highlighted the irony that it was the audience who were over-consuming internet personalities.
Planned it two years ago
Perry claimed he had hinted at his weight loss journey in a video from February 2022 titled “The Best Burger I’ve Ever Had,” which has since been renamed “Two Steps Ahead • Original, 2022.” He scripted the clip knowing he was about to start his secret weight loss journey, but the audience did not catch on.
Continued to mislead audience
Even after the 2022 video, Perry continued to share old clips of himself across his various channels. As recently as three months ago, he posted a video claiming he was giving up on losing weight, further misleading his audience.
New era
Perry announced he is entering a “new era,” as mentioned in a follow-up video on his second YouTube channel. He has also created new Instagram and X accounts, sharing several before and after photos to document his transformation.
