Trains on the Sengkang LRT line will operate in one direction for both the East and West loops on 28 and 29 September 2024. This temporary change is to facilitate the ongoing upgrading works at the Sengkang LRT station, as announced by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) on 17 September.
Background
The single-loop service aims to improve passenger flow at the Sengkang LRT station. Regular train service is expected to resume on 30 September. The upgrading works, which began in March 2024, are scheduled for completion by the end of the year.
Changes to train operations
During the upgrade, trains will serve all existing stations but will only move in one direction: towards Ranggung station on the Sengkang East Loop and towards Renjong station on the Sengkang West Loop. This adjustment means that each of the four LRT routes will have a dedicated boarding location at the Sengkang station.
New boarding locations
With the upgrade, trains will stop at two different locations on each platform instead of one. This change is designed to streamline the boarding process and reduce confusion among passengers. Currently, trains stop at only two locations at Sengkang LRT station, one on each of the station’s two platforms, requiring passengers to check overhead signs to determine the route of the departing train.
Future improvements
The LTA has also ordered 25 new car trains to cater to the higher demand on the Sengkang-Punggol LRT post-pandemic. This move, announced in May 2023, is part of a broader effort to enhance the overall commuter experience.
Additional information
Sengkang Town Centre (STC) has been serving as the interchange for the LRT routes. The ongoing enhancements at the Sengkang LRT station are expected to significantly improve commuter flow and efficiency. Passengers can look forward to a more streamlined and user-friendly experience once the upgrades are completed by the end of 2024.
