Man jumps across KL monorail tracks, now wanted by M’sia police

A man is currently being sought by Malaysian police after he was caught on video jumping across train tracks at the Bukit Bintang monorail station in Kuala Lumpur on 24 September. The incident, which was reported to the authorities on 25 September, has sparked a search led by Dang Wangi police chief Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman. The video, initially shared on the Chinese social media platform Xiaohongshu by user Manchys 大马生活, was detected by authorities at around 11:35 pm on the day of the incident.

Background

The video shows the unidentified man, dressed in a cap, white t-shirt, and blue bermuda shorts, standing on the train tracks between two platforms. He then leaps onto the opposite platform, using his hands to pull himself up as several commuters watch. The man appears to gesture casually before the video ends. Manchys, who posted the video, expressed shock at witnessing the event and noted that the man only climbed up when the train was nearly arriving, causing a disruption to the entire monorail line.

Climbed up onto platform from train tracks

In the brief four-second clip, the man’s risky behaviour is evident. He stands on the tracks, then hoists himself onto the opposite platform. Manchys captioned the video with her astonishment, writing, “I did not expect I would witness this today.” She further explained that the man had jumped from one platform to another and questioned what might have happened if he had been unable to climb up in time.

Investigations ongoing

Sulizmie confirmed that the video was shared online on the same day as the incident. The Prasarana auxiliary police filed a report at 9:34 pm on 25 September after failing to locate the man. The case is being investigated as criminal trespass. Malaysian police have urged anyone with information to contact the Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters at (+60) 03-26002222, the KL police hotline at (+60) 03-21159999, or their nearest police station.

Public response and safety concerns

The incident has raised significant safety concerns among the public. Many have criticised the man’s reckless behaviour, highlighting the potential dangers not only to himself but also to other commuters. Authorities are emphasising the importance of adhering to safety protocols in public transport areas to prevent such incidents in the future. The search for the man continues, with police hoping to gather more information from the public to aid in their investigation.
