Malaysian Men Outnumber Women By Over 1 Million For 4 Years In A Row

In the Demographic Statistics First Quarter 2020 report released last Tuesday, 12 May, the DOSM stated that the male population is 16.90 million, while the female population is 15.84 million - a drastic 1.06 million in difference.

"The sex ratio remains at 107 males per 100 females," said chief statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin in a statement on Friday, 15 May. New Straits Times reported that the male and female population increased by 90,000 and 120,000 respectively in comparison to the same period last year.

The report also noted that Malaysia's male population surpassed their counterpart by one million since at least 2016.

Mohd Uzir said the population comprises 29.62 million Malaysian citizens and 3.12 million non-citizens.

Selangor remains the most populous state with 6.57 million people, while Labuan has the smallest population of 99,600 individuals.
