A resident of a HDB flat in Bedok North Road is facing severe water leakage problems from the unit above her. The leaks have caused damage to her furniture and led to power outages.
According to the 34-year-old owner, Lin, the leakage started about six months ago and has been getting worse. Lin claims that when the person above uses a lot of water, it "will be raining from my ceiling." The leaks have been so serious that she has had to dismantle and dispose of her cabinets and relocate her power sockets. Lin alleges that there have been over 10 power outages since October of last year and that she now has to use plastic bags to protect the sockets from water damage.
Lin went to the Small Claims Tribunal last month, seeking damages of S$4,500 to S$5,000, but the case has not been settled. The Building Construction Authority has agreed to send an inspector and proposed to subsidize 50% of the maintenance cost under the Goodwill Repair Assistance Scheme. However, the repair is estimated to take two to four months to carry out. Lin claims that she tried to communicate with the owner above her unit but was refused. The owner above declined to comment when approached by Shin Min Daily News.
