The Anglican Church in Singapore has voiced its disappointment following the Church of England's recent decision to permit the blessing of same-sex civil unions. In a pastoral letter issued on Saturday, the Bishop of Singapore, the Right Reverend Titus Chung, stated that blessing same-sex unions was not supported by the Bible, which "teaches unambiguously that marriage is between one man and one woman". Chung stated that many Anglicans were "troubled" and wished for clarity regarding the General Synod's decision.
Despite their opposition to the decision, the letter made it clear that the Province of the Anglican Church in South East Asia would continue to maintain its position within the communion. Same-sex couples can be prayed for and may attend church and learn about the Christian faith, but the Church of England will not marry them.
